When I joined BPI last August, the company had been operating remotely for some time. I was the first fully remote hire, and even my onboarding was virtual. My first events representing BPI were a policy focused event and one for general market contractors. I knew I wasn't seeing the "real deal" of what lives inside the close-knit building performance industry, but I wasn't sure exactly what I would see when I got there. So it was with great curiosity that I got on a plane for Nashville last month.
What I found was a group of people who are very passionate about what they do. The folks I met at NHPC 2022, without exception, are bright, curious, determined advance their own learning -- and they are deeply proud of the difference they make. This industry changes lives, and they know it. I found a tremendous professional pride, and a wish that our shared work was better understood by the public.
I admit to being a little overwhelmed! It was a big group and after two years of virtual, solitary learning, folks were charged to be in the room together. I might be new but BPI is well known, and no one hesitated to come to our table with tough questions. At times I felt like I was swimming in deep water! But the folks I talked with were solution-focused, responsive, and warm. I felt like we were all working toward the same goals, a good living for professionals and better homes for Americans. And I was grateful to be there.
I look forward to getting to know everyone in this industry and helping to elevate the work you all do. You can check out my more official recap of the event here.
